We had a blast with our Kids’ Drama Club in January and want to continue!
For this next session, we will meet in a classroom at the South Whidbey Community Center in Langley, Room 111.
Details about the class:
We will meet for 6 Fridays, starting March 7th and ending on April 18th (no class on Friday April 4th due to Spring Break).
Age group: 7-11 year olds
Class time: 3:30-5pm
What to bring: snack and water bottle
How we will spend our time: We will do some theater warm-ups for the voice and body, play theater games & do improv, engage in make-believe stories, and come up with something to show as a small performance to family and friends on the final day.
I definitely advocate for kids using their own ideas and imaginations and will value the process (and having fun!) over creating a polished final product. AND kids seem to enjoy creating something to PERFORM to show off to family and friends 🙂
The show will be at 4:45pm on the final day of class, April 18th.
I will bring in some items the kids can use for costumes and kids can bring things from home too that would help them dress as their character(s).
The cost for the class is $100.
A little about me: I studied theater in high school and college and in the last several years, have been in shows on Whidbey at WICA and Outcast, as well as creating a one-woman show of embodied poetry. I am also a mom to three daughters (the youngest, 9, will be in the class!) and love working with kids and helping them explore creative expression. I have taught classes like this before on my own and through the Whidbey Children’s Theater, homeschooling groups, and through summer camps for kids in Italy back in the day 🙂
Let me know if your child is interested and feel free to spread the word!
